Winter In Raleigh,NC. Does It Snow?

By Me. - September 29, 2019

Lets be clear, Raleigh is not New York, Boston and so on. So when we're talking about snow, it's important to realize we're strictly talking about North Carolina. Many people are quick to compare and that's not right at all. Each state is different and that's a fact.  So when people ask the question about snow, yes it snows. However it varies depending on where you live. I do know Fayetteville and more towards the south sees very little snow, more sleet than anything. The further north you go, the more snow. I live in North Raleigh and the most snow my area ever gotten was 8+ inches.  The picture above and below is from my balcony where I live. I'll be taking better pictures this year.

The snow is so beautiful here, especially with all of the tall trees. The city does a good job preparing for snow fall and clearing road ways. Traffic is not that bad, unless there's and accident or you really just have to be extra careful because of black ice.

So if you're looking for all seasons with not too much or too little snow, then Raleigh or even Charlotte and further north is a place I would recommend.  As for how often does it snow during the year when Winter time rolls around, I have personally experience two snow falls that accumulated, and one snow fall that just blanketed the ground. I'm hoping this year to have a white Christmas, but chances are slim. It usually snows before or after.

As for the city shutting down, places still remained open but did close early. It did depend on heavy the snow was falling though.
