Managing Dandruff and Dry Scalp, Stuff That Works.
By Me. - October 12, 2019
If you're like me and suffer from dandruff and dry scalp, then you've come to the right place. I happen to suffer from very severe dandruff; and before taking the medical route I decided to switch up my hair routine a little; and so far I have been able to keep my dandruff under control along with the dryness and itchy scalp. Above I took pictures of the hair products that I am currently using that works for me. Best of all? All of it is affordable.
Head & Shoulders have always been my go to shampoo but after awhile it just wasn't getting it, until I ran across a more updated kind which was the Instant Relief. It's infused with peppermint complex and tea tree essence. When I tell you this stuff is amazing, it's amazing. It will leave your scalp with a nice cool feeling and it will definitely be clean. After my first wash I literally had no flakes, and this is not sponsored by the way. This is an honest review. I truly had no flakes, and in order to keep it that way I atleast washed my hair twice a week if I didn't have box braids in.
TIP -- to keep my scalp cool and clean, after washing my hair with Head & Shoulders I applied peppermint oil to my scalp. It kept the flakes away and the itching away.
If you don't want to use up all of your Head & Shoulders shampoo like me sometimes, I also use V05 dry scalp line which also works great. After you shampoo your hair really good I would recommend you leave the conditioner in for atleast 30 minutes. Try to put a shower cap on so it can really penetrate your scalp.
Last but not least, if you're just taking out box braids I highly recommend you wash your hair with ISOPLUS and then wash with Head & Shoulders. I do it all time time when I been wearing box braids and that's only because box braids tend to make my hair extra dirty and not only does it clean your scalp but it replaces your PH level.

This is a scalp messager, and it's a wonderful feeling when you have dandruff. I must warn you to not be so rough with it or your scalp will bleed. I use it before I wash my hair to lift the flakes and I use it as I am washing my hair, but I stop if I start feeling discomfort such as pain or intense burning.
Everyone hair is different and what may work for me may not work for you. Always remember that our hair is like flowers, it needs water. If you feel your scalp is getting dry it wouldn't hurt to wash it and to deep condition. Some people say too much washing can dry your hair out, but I disagree. Of course if you wash your hair Monday and then turn around and wash it Tuesday, Wednesday, etc -- that's overdoing it. However, it's nothing wrong with washing your hair atleast twice a week and once during the weekend. Our scalp needs to be hydrated and taken care of.
EXTRA TIPS TO GET RID OF DANDRUFF
- Limit the amount of hair products you leave in.
- Wash your hair atleast twice a week.
- Don't leave protective styles in for no longer than 3 weeks.
- Avoid sew ins.
- Avoid cloth scarfs, use silk instead.
- Rice water rinses have helped me alot. Not only did it help my hair grow, but it made it stronger and my scalp less itchy. I do it once a month.
