Why We Moved From Philadelphia, And Will We Ever Move Back?
By Me. - September 15, 2019
I was born in Philadelphia, PA and lived there for awhile before my parents told me and my siblings a story about one day they talked about moving finally, and came up with the clever idea of closing their eyes and placing a finger on the map, in which it landed on Florida. They decided to move because of the crime and how deteriorated the city was back then, and today to this date it doesn't look any better, except for center city as expected. My Father even shared a story about being robbed twice at gunpoint coming home from work, and I quickly started to understand why we left. The crime, filth and my parents had enough.
Now that I am much older and been traveling more I been going back home more to visit family who still live there, and the first time going back as an adult really shocked me. Philadelphia is a very beautiful city, but it's dirty, crime ridden and very poverty stricken. I almost feel as if City Officials are leaving the city this way on purpose, that's how stunned I was. The houses are in terrible condition and look unsafe to even live in. There is trash everywhere, racism is alive and well, and the list goes on.
To be fair there are some very decent areas. I have some family in Germantown and it's pretty nice over there. Even where my Grandma live in Kensington, atleast in her area. There's a lot of beauty that I see, however I also know what's behind all that beauty so it's hard to say whether or not my family will move back. If I had to make a guess I would say probably not. I do enjoy visiting, I just can't see myself living there at the moment.
If you want me to go more in dept about living in Philadelphia in 2019 and moving forward, just let me know down in the comments or feel free to e-mail me.
